Homeless Strategy Program

The Provincial Métis Housing Corporation (PMHC) is a provincial Métis not for profit organization that is mandated to develop and institute housing programs and deliver housing related services for Métis, low-income and Aboriginal people.

The Provincial Métis Housing Corporation has been a corporate entity for over twenty-seven years and has provided access for low-income, seniors and Aboriginal people to Provincial and Federal housing programs throughout the Province of Saskatchewan. PMHC is an affiliate of the Métis Nation of Saskatchewan and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.

In 2013 PMHC was invited to apply to become a Community Entity (CE) and administer the federal funding for the Non-Designated Aboriginal Homelessness Stream in Saskatchewan through the Homelessness Partnering Strategy (HPS). The PMHC Board of Directors submitted an application to Service Canada to become the Community Entity. Subsequently PMHC put out a call for participation and formed a Community Advisory Board (CAB). The board was formed and called the Aboriginal Homelessness Advisory Board (AHAB).

In April 2014 PMHC signed a Contribution Agreement (CA) with the Government of Canada to become the Non-Designated Aboriginal Homelessness – Community Entity. Over the five-year contract period April 1, 2014 – March 31, 2019 PMHC delivered services and met the objectives and outcomes determined therein.

Non-Designated Aboriginal Homelessness Funding Stream (HPS) – Saskatchewan

The primary task of PMHC as the CE of the Non-Designated Aboriginal Homelessness Funding stream – Saskatchewan was to provide responsible and accountable administration of HPS funds and implementing the goals and objectives of the Aboriginal funding stream of the HPS Program.

The geographic area of service included eligible funded projects located throughout the Province of Saskatchewan with the exception of the designated communities of Regina and Saskatoon, which had designated funding through the HPS program. As well, the Aboriginal HPS program did not allow for projects on-reserve.
